Burgess Cup

The Burgess Cup was played for on Sunday afternoon and some good scoring was evident in this tough format. The foursomes format requires each couple to hit alternate shots leaving very little room for error. Alan Harcus and Eileen Simpson had a good front nine with 39, but couldn’t hold their early promise together and returned with a 45 back nine, 84 (13) Nett 71 to give them second spot. Their playing partners Stevie Tulloch and Morag Mowat had dreadful luck at the beginning of their round finding more burns than Guy Fawkes, However Stevie gave a master class in putting to save them several strokes during their round.

On recent form Janice Johnston and Chris Conboy could have been tipped as pre tournament favourites and they didn’t disappoint. Their 44 on the front nine was improved on with a 40 on the back nine to give them an 84 (16) Nett 68 and win the Cup.

Vice-Captain Alan Harcus presented the Cup to Janice and Chris along with a bottle of Champagne kindly donated by George and Margaret Burgess. Alan thanked the participating couples for their continued support in this excellent competition.
