A large one for Derek

Last Saturday at Dale Golf Course saw some big prizes available for anyone fortunate to record a hole in one during the Ian MacDonald Stableford Open. A Volkswagen Polo, a holiday to Portugal, a set of irons and a holiday to France would have been awarded to any player able to achieve this rare feat on the four selected holes.

A welcome break in the poor spell of weather meant that scoring conditions were very good with the recent rain making the course a lot softer underfoot and again there were some good scores returned.

A worthy winner, with an excellent score of 42 points, was Derek Nicolson who picked up his first trophy for a couple of years reducing his handicap from 15 to 13 in the process.

In second place was Dave McNicol who also managed to trim a shot off his handicap with a fine score of 40 points. Billy Finnie was in third place on 39 points and in fourth place on 37 points was Tam Sinclair, finishing a place ahead of Ernie Smith (37 points) with a better back nine. Ian Leiper finished in sixth place on 36 points also by virtue of a better back nine, from Glenn Gilfillan (36 points).

Unfortunately no one managed to get any of the hole in one prizes on offer but other prizes were awarded to, George Leask who’s tee shot was closest to the pin on the 14th, Jock Sim for nearest to the line on the 3rd, Ian Scott for nearest the pin in two on the 6th and Dave Howells for longest drive on the 18th.

Captain Stuart Fox presented the Ian MacDonald Cup to Derek Nicolson and thanked Ian Leiper and Gavin Philip of Ian MacDonald Financial Services for their continued sponsorship and for their assistance organising the event.
