Simpson wins LHD Senior Open

Recent competitions at Dale golf course have resulted in some excellent scores being returned with the course now in the best conditions players have seen for some time.

Last Wednesday saw Ian Sandilands win the LJK Cup off the forward tees, with a fine score of 81, net 61 to take first place. Stuart Tomlinson shot a 75, net 62 to take second place and Tom Simpson was in third with a score of 70, net 64. In fourth was Gary Wiseman (net 64) and in fifth was Ian Scott (net 64). This win also moves Sandilands up to second place in the summer league standings on 16 points, however Chris Conboy still leads the way on 20 points thanks to a couple of wins early in the season.

The Sondeli Trophy was played in stableford format on Saturday with the calm conditions giving players the chance to post some high scores. Ross Chisholm came in with an excellent score of 41 points, which would be enough to win most weeks, but this was beaten by Ross McDougall who also returned 41 points but his better back nine put him ahead of Chisholm. However, McDougall was also then overtaken by Robbie Watt who came in late on with a splendid score of 42 points, which was enough to take first place.

The LHD Seniors Open was then held on Sunday and it was Tom Simpson who led the way with an excellent score of 73 to take the LHD Senior scratch trophy. Tom finished one shot clear of both Dave Howells and Ernie Smith with Howells taking second place by virtue of his better back nine. George Leask was in fourth place with a score of 75.

Paul Foster had a welcome return to form as well, taking the LHD Seniors handicap trophy with a score of 80, net 67, by a single shot from second placed Davy Thomson 78, net 68. In third place, also with a score of net 68 was John Teale and Arthur Williamson was fourth with a score of net 69 with Chris Conboy fifth, also with a score of net 69.
