Intersport victory for Scott

A new event on the golfing calendar took place at Dale last Saturday when the InterSport Trophy was won by Ian Scott with Sunday’s August medal being won by David Howells while David L Thomson won the senior medal.

It was a fairly breezy day on Saturday with the threat of rain never far away and although the damp conditions meant that the greens were a bit slower than usual there were some very impressive scores returned. Scott’s 71, net 62, took first place with several birdies helping him to card a two under par 32 for the front nine, his back nine was steady enough to return a card a fine 71. Another good round came from Arthur Williamson who scored 77, net 63, to finish in second place just one shot back. A further shot back in third place was Dougie Shearer with a score of 73, net 64, and Jordan Leask was fourth with an excellent gross score of 69 for a net 64.

On Sunday, conditions were very similar to Saturday but the excellent scoring continued. David Howells won the August Medal with a round of 70, net 63, with Grant Wiseman just one shot back with a score of 72, net 64, despite three penalty shots on his card, in third place was Ian Leask with a score of 80, net 68. The August senior medal was won by David L Thomson also with a fine round, his 73, net 63, comfortably taking first place.

The Summer League will also reach its conclusion this week with Chris Conboy, Ronnie Birnie and Paul Nicol all tied for first place on 20 points. Although Conboy and Birnie both had more first places than Nicol the two could not be separated so a play-off will take place this week to decide who wins the summer league cup.

There will be a stableford sweepstake tomorrow and the Haig Whisky Trophy will take place on Sunday, this is also a stableford points competition.
