Jotun Open
News Posted: 18 May 2010
The first Open of the season on 15 May was the Jotun Open which brought the welcome sight of sunshine and a cloudless sky, although a strong breeze was still in evidence. An entry of over 50 players saw the silverware being closely contested with some superb scores being recorded.
This was certainly the case in the handicap section where a par round of nett 68 by Stevie Tulloch, Ian Pottinger and Ronnie Birnie only managed to fill positions 5-7. One shot better in fourth was Ross McDougall and third with a nett 66 was Dougie MacDonald. Second place was filled by Allan Johnston whose score of nett 63 would have most weeks seen him claim the trophy. But finally making it to top of the pile after a hat-trick of second places was Keith Fraser with a wonderful nett 62.
The scratch section was no less eagerly contested with gross 75's by Colin Bain and Magnus Leask only filling positions 4 and 5 respectively. Third was Ernie Smith with a 74 and one shot better in second was Robbie Jamieson. But brushing off the competition was Ross Chisholm with an excellent gross 70.
Other prize winners were: -
Nearest the Pin at the 2nd - Stanley Sinclair
Nearest the Pin at the 17th - George Fraser
Longest Drive - Ronnie Birnie
Nearest the Pin in 2 at the 5th - Colin Bain
