The final event of July was the International Pairs sponsored by local shop Alex Morrisons. This event sees the winners travel to the mainland to represent the club at a regional final and if they are successful there then there is the UK final and ultimately the world final at the Carrick on Loch Lomond.
The weather that greeted the 44 competitors did nothing to encourage good scoring with misty conditions and drizzle, which was occasionally heavy, although conditions did dry up in the early afternoon.
Despite the testing conditions some excellent scores were posted. Stewart Tomlinson scored the highest individual points on the day with 40. For a period in the afternoon it looked like countback was going to decide the winner with 3 pairings tied on 73 points, Stuart Anderson (36) & Graeme Gerrard (37), John Collins (39) & Davy L Thomson (34) and Ian Scott (35) & Chris Conboy (38). But sailing to the Committee’s aid were Michael Grant and Tam Sinclair who both scored 38 points for a total of 76.
Michael and Tam now travel to Slaley Hall, Northumberland to take part in the regional final and we wish them the best of luck. The winners would like to thank Edwin and his team for presenting the course in excellent condition, especially the greens, and to Alex Morrison’s for stepping in to sponsor the event at short notice.
