Fish Cup win for SGC

Last Saturday the Fish Cup took place when a 12 man Whalsay GC team came to Dale to take on Shetland GC. Shetland GC got off to a flyer in the six doubles matches by taking all of the first three matches, Whalsay then made something of a comeback by winning the next two but the last match was halved to give Shetland GC victory with the final score at 3½ points to 2½.

On Sunday, the J Walker Trophy was won by Ernie Smith with an excellent round of 71 (net 64). Despite the windy conditions, steady play and some fine putting from Ernie ensured first place and a handicap reduction. Maurice Clark also produced a fine round, returning a score of 74, also for a net score of 64, but a poorer inward nine holes meant he was unlucky to just miss out on first place. Stuart Tomlinson took third place with a score of 80 (net 68) and Ian Scott was in fourth place with 76 (net 69).

This weekend sees the first open competition of the year take place with the Jotun Open tomorrow. There will also be a play anytime stableford sweepstake on Sunday.
