The annual Junior/Senior Open saw an improvement in the wet and windy conditions of late, with a still, dry day although a dampness hung in the air.
A healthy 14 pairs took part this year, 7 pairings in each of the 9 and 18-hole competitions.
In the 9-hole event third place was taken by father and son combination Brydon and Callum Leask with a nett 41. In second, showing that golf is a sport which can span all ages was Grandad and Grandson pairing Allison & Stuart Bain with a nett 39. But taking first place with an excellent nett 34 was Gavin Philip and Bobby Scott, Bobby’s precise driving keeping Gavin out of the rough unlike his own driving.
In the 18-hole competition there was some unbelievable scoring with father and son pairings taking second and third place. In third was Keith and Kieran Fraser with a (84) nett 64, a shot ahead with (81) nett 63 was Dale Smith and son Sean. But taking first place with an exceptional (79) nett 58 was ex-club captain Stuart Fox and Sean Graham. The combination of Sean’s putting, which was exceptional during the round, and Stuart’s tee shots, where Sean only once had to say his dad Eric could’ve done better, proved unbeatable on the day.
