The poor weather of May finally departed and a well presented course with true running greens and just a light but chilly wind made for near perfect scoring conditions for the 73 golfers at Dale for the 2011 LEF Open. The players did not disappoint with some exceptional scores being posted including a new club record!!
The handicap section was extremely tight with only 4 shots separating 1st from 5th. A 2 under par nett 66 by Stephen Tulloch (78) was only good enough to sneak fifth, a shot better was Robbie Jamieson (71) nett 65. Third went to Grant Wiseman with a nett 64 (72) and second Rab Duffin with a nett 63 (81). Topping the pile on the day however was Ronnie Birnie with a wonderful nett 62 (70).
The scratch section saw Jordan Leask claim third with a gross 71, a shot better was Ernie Smith in second. But shooting to the top of the list and claiming the title with a fantastic new course record of 66 was Ross MacDougall.
A club spokesman would like to thank Lerwick Engineering and Fabrication (LEF) for their continued sponsorship of the event. Other prize-winners on the day were: Nearest the pin @ 9 – Graeme Sandison, Nearest the pin @ 17 – Robbie Irvine, Nearest the pin in Two @ 3 – Alan Harcus and Longest Drive – Michael Anderson.
