S.J.S.Open 2010

The final open competition of the year for junior golfers, the Shetland Janitorial Supplies Open took place on Sunday 22^nd August.  In good scoring conditions, with most of the regular juniors playing, a low scoring competitive day was expected and they did not disappoint. 

Jake Constable was in the first group out on the course, and from the outset he was in no mood to relinquish his title, and was in fact going for three wins in a row in this competition.  As expected Jake came in with a very low score and set the challenge to the other competitors.  The overall scoring on the day was very impressive but no one could stop Jake with a gross 75 from retaining his title and claiming the shield for the third consecutive year.  Second place was taken by young Andrew Bain with a gross 82, helped by a superb back nine of 37.  Liam Coffey claimed third place with a gross 84 and although not pleased with his game still managed to reduce his handicap.   

The handicap competition was very close but Sean Smith claimed first place with a very impressive net score of 60.  Sean Graham continued his recent good form with a second place net score of 63.  Kieren Fraser was third net and Stuart Fraser was fourth net. 

The 9 hole competition saw a smaller entry than last year due to other sporting events clashing on the same day.  Nevertheless the good conditions saw some fine golf with the defending champion Liam Thomson coming in third place with a score of 59.  In second was Zac Ferguson with an impressive score of 57 but the clear winner of the Shetland Janitorial Supplies 9 hole Open for 2010 was Ryan Kirk with a superb score of 51.

This year’s Shetland Janitorial Supplies Open produced one of the years most keenly fought tournaments with many juniors improving their handicaps.  Special thanks goes again to Shetland Janitorial Supplies for their continued sponsorship of this event and their support of junior golf.
