July started with the Alan Blance memorial trophy being won by Jake Constable on countback from Bruce Crossan and J Campbell Farquhar after all scored 37 points. The following day’s Bond Cup saw victory, again on countback, with a nett 66 for the newly married Dougie MacDonald (74) from Maurice Clark (76). Third on countback with the lowest gross on the day was Ross Chisholm (72) nett 67 from Bob Campbell (86). The Texas Scramble on the first Wednesday of the month saw the team of David Howells, Ian Scott and Robbie Jamieson emerge victorious with a (58) nett 54.5.
The next two Wednesday sweeps were both won by Steven Henry. Steven’s (85) claimed first on countback from Robert Sales (90) and Ross Chisholm (70) after all had scored nett 65’s, Ross’s 70 being the lowest gross for the competition. Steven’s second win saw him score an amazing 45 points, five clear of Graeme Davie who edged out Brydon Leask on countback. The final Wednesday sweepstake of the month also saw an outstanding score being posted with Derek Beatty (76) claiming victory with a nett 61. Paul Foster (77) claimed second with a nett 65 and George Fraser (85) third with a nett 66. With one month to go in the race for the summer league cup, long-time leader Robert Sales still heads the field with 26 points, but following this months two victories Steven Henry has risen to second with 22 points and third is old campaigner Ian Scott on 16.
The Tall Ships weekend saw Magnus Leask claim the Sondeli trophy with 39 points, second was Michael Groat with 37 with Crawford McIntyre third with 35. The July medal was won by Paul Foster (79) nett 67, with J Campbell Farquhar (78) edging out Ian Scott (79) on countback after both had nett 70’s. Ernie Smith had the lowest gross round with a 77. The final competition of the month was the re-scheduled JW Gray Cup, with the better weather leading to some wonderful scoring with 7 players bettering par. Such was the scoring that John W Thomson (86) nett 64 was only good enough for fifth. Fourth was Allan Johnston (81) nett 63, a shot better off was Richie Smith (75), second with the lowest gross (69) was J Campbell Farquhar nett 61. But eclipsing them all with an (82) nett 60 was Neil Robertson.
