The weather over the last few weeks has not been kind to the golfing schedule with a number of competitions having to be cancelled and re-arranged. However, thankfully for the first men’s open of the season, the Jotun Paints Open, there was a brief respite from the recent wet weather, although a strong breeze blew across the course making scoring difficult.
The handicap trophy saw a close finish with only 4 shots separating the top 5. Taking fifth place with an 71 (85) was Stewart Jarvie, missing out on a seat on the podium in fourth was Ian Scott 70 (79), sneaking third by virtue of a better inward half was John Teale 70 (89). Two shots clear in second with a 68 (75) was ex-two time captain Campbell Farquhar, but winning by a shot and pocketing the handicap trophy was Lee Carter with a 67 (75).
The scratch section saw the ever consistent Jordan Leask add to his trophy haul with a 72 and a three shot victory, taking second with a 75 was the evergreen Ernie Smith with Grant Wiseman taking the final podium place on 77.
Spot prize-winners were: Longest Drive - Jordan Leask, nearest the pin in 2 @ 6th – Ronnie Birnie, nearest the pin @ 2nd – Tom Simpson, nearest the pin @ 17th – Ian Scott.
The club would like to thank Frank Williamson’s for their continued support and to Allan and Alison Sinclair from Williamson’s for presenting the prizes.
