LADIES GOLF AT DALE IN AUGUST

Competitions in August started with the Monthly medal. Heather Hogg took first place in the silver division with an excellent nett 69 followed by Margaret Simpson on 70 and Margie Pearson on 73. In the Bronze section Helen Thompson was first with a nett 71, Linda Ruthven took second with 72 and Shona Ward third with 73. The G. Burgess Stableford series continues with Heather leading the way with 133 points, Linda in second on 116 and Helen on 114. With two more rounds to go things could still change.

 

The Ladies Senior Open sponsored by Baroc was next on the schedule. Nearest the pin on the 2nd hole was May Grant, nearest the pin in two at the 8th hole was Loraine Anderson and Heather was nearest the pin on the 14th. In the Gross section Heather took the honours scoring an excellent 77 followed by Liz Simpson with 89. In the handicap section Cathy Shearer took first with 72, only separated by a countback by Mandy Henderson also on 72 with Margie Pearson in 3rd on 74, Janice Johnson fourth with 75 and Mildred Balance in 5th on 77. In the nine-hole stableford competition Audrey Thompson was first with 16 points, followed by Eileen Simpson on 15 and Elaine Falconer on 13.

In the A. L. Laing trophy Linda Ruthven played very well to take first place with a nett score of 70, hot on her heals was Heather on 71 and June Wishart taking third with 73. In the nine-hole section Caroline Keith was first with an excellent score of 17 points, followed by Kay Foster on 13 and Penelope Smith on 11.

The Dale trophy was won by Mandy Henderson who scored 37 Stableford points followed closely by Linda and Margie both on 36 and Heather fourth on 35 points. In the nine-hole competition Kay Foster took first place with Penelope Smith in second.

The match-play competitions which have been running during the season have now been concluded. In the Waterlily competition the final was played between Mandy Henderson and Christine Simpson with Mandy winning in a close fought match. In the Kelly trophy Morag Mouat and Shona Ward did battle with Shona emerging the winner. In the Gross section of the Club championship Heather Hogg took on Margie Pearson with Heather winning in another close encounter. In the Handicap section Shona took on Christine with Christine taking the honours.
