Mens June Competition review

News Posted: 3rd July 2019

Alongside the Delta Marine Mixed Open there was a Mens 18 hole Stableford competition which Andrew Bain carded a 39 points (+1 over par - 69) to continue his good run of form and get another handicap reduction. Stewart Tomlinson matched the score of 39 to win the Sunday Stableford the following day.

Dougie Macdonald with an excellent Gross 71, Nett 63, won the Golden Coach Monthly Medal for June. An excellent round including 1 birdie(5th) and only 4 bogeys. Life in the old dog yet…

With the county championships in Whalsay, there was just a Stableford for both Saturday and Sunday events. Saturday 8th was won by Gibbie Pottinger, just edging out Steve Lamb on countback with both men on 36 points.

Sunday 9th saw Jeremy Duncan demolished the sizeable field and was 3 clear on 33 points, with Jamie in 2nd place on the podium………

Round of the month contender from Kenneth Shearer, as he stole the show, and secured the Hay and Co cup with a personal best score around the Dale. His 45 points (78 gross) which included 3 birdies all of which would have provided 4 pointers. In the same event Ernie smith showed a glimpse of his form returning with a 39 point round (71 gross) as he returns to a handicap of 5 once again.

The 'Frame-It' trophy was won by John Duncan with a steady 36 points, which with scoring conditions tough, got him a 0.4 reduction and takes him to 12.0 exact.

The best score in the J. Bruce doubles by an individual was Robert Twin who scored an excellent 39 points. Unfortunately he was let down by his partner, Ian Scott who got a miserly 24 points. The Doubles winners who had a combined score of 69 was Kieren and Mike who edged out Robert Geddes and Grant Wiseman on countback. Geddes would come to rue that 4 putt on the 18th which cost them the win in the end.

Excelsior Shield seen Ernie mith return to form and winning ways as he carded a 40 points (Gross 70) score to take the shield home. An excellent round where he was -1 around the turn. A close 2nd was Andrew Bain on 38 points.

Zaoui got his name on the Intersport Trophy on a busy wednesday which seen 40 players compete for the trophy. His 85, nett 66 was enough to see off the field in the end.

Saturday 29th saw John Duncan return to the top of the pile a meer 2 weeks after his Frame it victory. This was a much more impressive display of the golf that i know he is capable of. An excellent 76 gross, which included 3 birdies got him the victory with a nett 64 and another reduction.

Kenneth shearer claimed the last competition of the month with a victory in the sunday sweep. Finishing with 35 points was enough to finish in 1st place and get a victory.

Some excellent golf over the month with Kenneth Shearer and John Duncan both standing out with some excellent results, scores and handicap reductions. Hopefully more excellent golf will be on display by all members through the July competitions.
