DELTA MARINE Mixed Open 2019

News Posted: 3rd June 2019

Saturday at Dale saw a good turnout for the Delta Marine Mixed Open, with 23 pairings participating, only 1 less than in 2018.

The winners in the scratch competition for the 2nd year in a row was Heather Hogg and son, Ramsay Hogg. The Handicap trophy was won by Robert Geddes and his ‘Whalsay Mum’ Margaret Pearson.

The course was in excellent condition, which is down to the hard work of Allyn Sutherland, our new greens keeper and the members who have given up their own time to help him over the past few weeks.

In the handicap section, the top 3 Pairings were within 4 shots of each other. In 3rd place was Shona Ward and Gavin Philip, with an excellent Nett 68. 2nd place went to Morag Mouat and resident ‘Raffle Compere’ Stevie Tulloch. An excellent round saw them come in with a Nett 66, but it wasn’t quite enough to get their hands on silverware as Robert Geddes and Margie Pearson had a brilliant scratch score of 74 which was 2nd best on the day and was a Nett 64 to win the Handicap Trophy.

The scratch prizes were also closely contested. In 3rd place, Whalsay pairing of Rosie and Graeme Sandison played a very steady round to score (81), and pushed Daughter Angelina and playing partner Stuart into 4th place on countback. New pairing of Margaret Simpson and Greens Keeper Allyn Sutherland finished with a 79 to take 2nd place. Winning for the 2nd year in a row was Mother and Son pairing, Heather and Ramsay Hogg with an excellent 71.

Men’s Captain Ramsay Hogg, invited up John Keppie, who was there to represent the sponsors, Delta Marine, to present the prizes. He was ably assisted by the Men’s competition guru Ronnie Birnie who was announcing the prize winners.

Nearest the pin at the 2nd was Jaqualine & David Irvine (6ft away). With nearest in 2 on 6th, Morag Mouat and Stevie Tulloch took the honours with (38ft), with the pin right at the back and a tough wind it was always going to be hard to get close. Nearest to the pin at the 14th went to Mens Captain Ramsay Hogg as he was the only person to measure on the green with 28ft. Finally nearest in 2 at 16th also went to scratch winners Heather and Ramsay, as Ramsay hit his 3 Wood onto the green which left Heather to just Putt it in or close, which she did to 1ft.

A spokesman for the golf club would like to thank Delta Marine for their excellent support and involvement with this event, Grace McCaffrey for the lovely feed as always, and all competitiors for coming out to play and making the event as fun and enjoyable as always.
